There are over 260 transboundary basins in the world. They are very important in respect of their ecological, economic and social functions, and also provide important ecosystem services. But despite its thematic relevance, there is a paucity of publications which explicitly look at the connections between water use and management, in a transboundary context. This book will combine the themes of “sustainable water use” and “transboundary river basins”, and will entail contributions from both engineering and social sciences at the same time.
The book, which will be published by a leading international publisher, will introduce the latest research and outcomes of projects focusing on the sustainable use and management of water in transboundary river basins. It will provide a state-of-the art description of approaches, methods, initiatives and projects from across the world, illustrating how water resources can be managed and used in a more sustainable way at an international scale. The publication will provide a timely contribution towards the dissemination of approaches and methods which may improve the quality of life of millions of people, in especially arid and semi-arid regions.
Expressions of interest for papers dealing with one or more of the following issues, and consisting initially of a 200 words abstracts –with all contact details of the authors- are now being sought:
• ecological functions of transboundary basins
• the role of ecosystem services
• engineering components in the use of transboundary basins
• socio-economic issues
• aspects of policy and governance
• climate change impacts on river basins
• floods, risks and resiliance
Other themes may also be accepted, and interested authors are warmly encouraged to contact the editors and seek advice.
The deadline for submissions of abstract is the 20th January 2015. Full papers are due by the 30th April 2015.
The book is expected to published in September/October 2015. Abstracts should be sent by the above deadline to: email@example.com. Further details on submissions and format will be discussed with the authors whose abstracts have been accepted.
